About this property

A sturdy house on the edge of a hamlet, ten minutes from the Atlantic coast, with thick walls that know the wind and a hórreo in the yard.

The Costa da Morte isn't the prettiest coast in Spain because of the sunshine — it's striking because the weather plays a part. This house was built with that in mind: seventy-centimetre walls, small windows on the north side, a sheltered courtyard to the south. The ground floor is habitable and was in use until 2023. The upper floor is unfinished but dry. In the yard stands an intact hórreo, the granite granary on stilts that belongs to a Galician farmhouse.

What stood out to us

  • Intact hórreo on the plot — protected heritage and the house's calling card
  • Ground floor is habitable, with a working wood stove and central heating
  • Sheltered courtyard facing south, out of the wind
  • Four beaches within a quarter of an hour's drive, accessible year-round

What we're upfront about

For every property we show, we also point out what isn't right or what needs attention — even though we're the ones selling it.

  • Damp on the north wall of the utility room; the cause has been identified but not yet fixed
  • You can't simply alter a hórreo: restoration requires council permission
  • Winters here are wet and windy. If you're after summer sun only, look elsewhere
  • The cadastral surface differs by 90 m² from the land registry; this needs correcting before the purchase
